This book was a great read all the way through. I enjoyed hearing how people lived in the 1920's and 30's. It really gives you perspective when comparing it to how we live today. It was great hearing his tales of world war 2 and all the fishing stories. I really appreciated his honesty and openness throughout the book, about mistakes he made and how he really thought of people and events. I also liked the dialect and old sayings used throughout the text. I'm from Missouri and would really like to go fishing with Norten someday if I ever get the chance. Great book for anyone, especially young people or anyone who likes the outdoors.
The Best of Dablemont
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 15 years ago
Larry Dablemont has long proven his talents with the written word on matters of the out of doors but with his book, RIDGE RUNNER, he has even surpassed himself. You can almost smell the musty odor of the woods and hear the gurgling of the stream where his uncle fished and trapped to feed the family during the bleak days in the early Ozarks. He brings to life the hard scrabble times of this beautiful country during the '30's and '40's before the White River was tamed by the series of dams we now take for granted. If you enjoy a walk back through a less hurried but much harder time when survival was an every day test, take a stroll through these pages. You'll never forget your journey. Fred Richardson, Protem, Mo.
