Ricochet The reason I chose the book Ricochet, by Nancy Baker Jacobs, wasn't because I was intrigued by the front cover or because I was actually curious as to what was written in it. The real reason was because I knew I had a book report due in about a week and it was the first book I saw at the Saturday yard sale, so I bought it for twenty five cents. I had never heard of the author, I didn't even know what the book was about. I bought it knowing that even if I didn't like it I would have to read it no questions asked. Turns out I couldn't put the book down. Who knew a murder mystery with a little bit of a sappy love story on the side was the book for me. The main character, Annabel Nettleton had gotten pregnant with Dylan Nettleton's son and has been married to him for a very short time. She and her newborn son are forced to move almost every three months to a different location. As the book progresses Annabel realizes that she doesn't know anything about her husband. Dylan is a very mysterious person who is always on, what Annabel calls, "business trips." Where does he go and what does he do for a living? Annabel has no idea. He refused to open up and let Annabel in, and when he is found dead in Annabel's bedroom, Annabel becomes a suspect of the murder mystery, because before he died she discovered he was about to inherit forty million dollars from a dying family member. The book is in Annabel's point of view, therefore you know that she did not murder her husband. She has no idea who murdered Dylan and now she is being bombarded by police interviews and the news channels pin pointing her flaws, putting her new born son into massive danger. All throughout the book Annabel and her son are in a life threatening position and are being attacked by possibly the murder of her husband. Along with the murder mystery there is a little bit of a love story between Annabel and her lawyer. Before Dylan hade been killed Annabel wanted to get a divorce from her husband, so she hired a lawyer. After Dylan was killed Annabel's lawyer said he would help protect her from the police. Without willing to admit it Annabel and her lawyer began to slowly fall in love. For those who love to read, or simply just need a book to read for a class project, Ricochet is a great page turner full of breathtaking twists. Ricochet just proves how well people can just jump to conclusions and assume someone killed someone else without hearing their side of the story. To read how Annabel proves herself innocent and discovers who kills her husband you'll have to read the book. Enjoy!
