Best London guide - no question

My wife and I returned for our 4th trip to London last spring and the most current edition of this book has always gone with me. I tear it apart while I'm there, taking sections with me for the day as I explore. It is updated annually so I always get the newest version before I leave. Rick's guides are not comprehensive - they don't list every hotel or eatery - but they do filter out the best ones in each area of town and that is what I want in a guide book. Recommendations on hotels, sites, local culture and transportation are more valuable than those on eateries. Maps are simple but accurate, providing enough direction to keep you from getting lost while still encouraging you to wander a bit and discover your own gems. There is a heavy emphasis on history, the arts and experiencing life with the locals. The abbreviated tours - like the one of the National Gallery - help you see the "best of" the site when you don't have time to see it all. First timers, don't leave home without it.

Rick Steves' London

Rick Steves continues to produce the best guide books to European travel. Especially if you are a first-timer to Europe, his books should be your primary source for information and tips on "how and where and when and why". "London" gives the travelor a great list of places to visit, with handy, although simple, maps, a huge amount of helpful tips for negotiating the city and surrounding area. And if you're an experienced visitor to London, his book is a great read. I've often caught myself nodding and thinking "that's right" or "yeah, I was there" while reading it.

WOW This Book Is Wonderful.

Rick Steves has done a wonderful job with this book..I have been to London twice and have used his book and a couple of others too help me get the most out of my vacation time in London. I recommend this book to anyone traveling to London. Happy Reading and Happy Travels.

Take this book with you to London

If you are a Rick Steves fan, then you know what to expect from this book. It is full of practical advice and sightseeing ideas. He gives detailed tours on some of the best sights in London: the Tower of London, the British Museum, the National Gallery, etc. Read these sections carefully, because I've found that Mr. Steves often gives little hints for sites that others don't. However, if you have never read one of Mr. Steves's books, you need to be aware that his books are full of his opinions and favorites. This book is excellent in content, but it is also remarkable in what it omits. Example: there is an entire section on how to do a daytrip to Paris on the Eurostar, but no mention of Windsor, an easy twenty minute train ride away from London. Also, forget trying to call any of the hotels he recommends on a short notice. All the ones I tried were solidly booked. So, buy one of those big, beautiful, glossy guides to help you plan your trip, but get this one and take it to London to use as a touring guide.

Everything you need to know.

Rick Steves' London is full of information that you will need when visiting London. Not only does he cover the travel esentials but he covers those items that you never would have thought of. We bought this book for our second trip to London to make sure we didn't miss those things that only a seasoned travelor like Rick would know. He points them all out. Rick's book will also save you from waisting your time and money on those sights that are overrated, and suggest those sights that are not to be missed.Excellent.
