Rick Steves' is AWESOME!

If you are going on a trip get a Rick Steves' book. I went to London, Paris and Amsterdam using his books and they are great. I am going to Ireland next year and this book is going to help a lot. They give you great places to stay, eat and play!

As solid as a slowly poured Guinness

Rick Steves, oh Rick Steves, when do you ever go wrong? Certainly not this time around. The 2009 Ireland book was concise, cleverly written (the passage describing what "really" happened at the Giant's Causeway is an excellent example of Rick's witty, tongue-in-cheek prose), and thorough. It also held true to it's concept, which is to mention the more affordable options when visiting. He spends plenty of time listing all the popular attractions in the Republic, and yet still takes the time to explain the political bouts of The Troubles, provides a guide to the all-gaelic road signs for the West, and accurately listed entrance times, prices, and ratings for the attractions we visited. We even booked The Whins b & b in Dunnfaneghy as suggested, and were glad we did! Overall, fantastic book. If you are looking for a simple, concise, witty, and budget-minded guide (with still a few suggestions for a splurge or two), pick this one up and leave it at your last locale for others to put to good use! You help the world and your karma. Double score.

Great Ireland guide!

My husband and I just returned from 18 days in Ireland. This book helped us determine much of our travel- what was worth seeing and what wasn't. We didn't pay a whole lot of attention to where he recommended staying and eating- there are more than enough places to choose from. The handdrawn maps were very helpful- although we'd definitely recommend picking up a 'real' map if you are driving (and a GPS!). We had the best time and would recommend this book to anyone traveling to Ireland!

GREAT BOOK! WELL-ORGANIZED, FUN, HONEST!

We went to Ireland last year for the first time and loved it so much, we are going again this year. We purchased this book as well as another guidebook. This one is fabulous -- very well thought out and organized - you can tell he really knows what he is talking about -- this is the one that we will bring with us -- he even tells you when and how to drive the Dingle Peninsula to avoid the tourist buses -- does not give you too much information. He has a very honest and down to earth approach which makes for an informative and interesting read!

A MUST-BUY

We used the 2003 version of this book for our trip in May 2003. My wife and I will not travel in Europe without one of Rick Steves' books! Specifically, the Ireland book provided us with some useful guidelines for each day of our trip. Some we followed completely, many we tailored for our own interests. You can't see it all in a week or ten days, so Rick Steves' helps you hit the high spots, find some comfortable and friendly places to stay, and avoid the tourist traps. He helped us get the most for our money in Ireland.
