flying ribbons

RibbonsCharacters: robin paw paw Ian Robin is a wonderful dancer and she isn't afraid to show it. Her dance instructor shows the whole class what they should dance like using robin as an example. Robin has just been moved up to the senior class where they where the point shoes with the ribbons that swirl around their ankles. She is so excited she can't imagine what life would be like without dance until she has to. She has found out that her parents have gone bankrupt so she can't pay for dance. When her grandmother came over, it got worse. Her grand mother told her she couldn't practice dance, because of what it did to her feet. Robin thinks all is lost until she finds out her grandmothers secret!I think this book is funny and exciting. This book could be recommended to everybody, but mostly for dancers because they would know what it would be like to have dance taken away. I give this book 5/5 stars because I think that it was very exciting.

Robin's Ribbons Review

Ribbons is a really good book. The only problem I had was that it ended really quickly. I mean out of nowhere it just ended. The book left me wondering "Is that all?" I think that Laurence Yep should write a sequel to Ribbons because the readers should know what happened to Robin after the story ended. Ribbons is about a Chinese ballerina, Robin, whose family is poor. Her family is poor because Robin's mother paid for her two brothers to come to America and go through college. Now Robin's mother feels like she has to pay for Robin's grandmother to come to the United States by herself. Robin's family doesn't have enough money to pay for her grandmother and her ballet lessons, so they make her quit ballet lessons. When her grandmother arrives in the United States she comes to live with Robin and her family. The problem is that her grandmother favors her little annoying brother and acts like she hates Robin. The book was good because Robin had family and friends and you could tell they were doing everything they could do to help her through the hard time she was going through. I thought it was neat that she kept on doing ballet even though she had a problem with her feet. She loved ballet and couldn't give it up. I'd probably give this book about four and a half stars if I were to rate it.

Good Story

i love Laurence Yep's books, and this one is no exception. I like how he is able to write about Chinese people without using any stereotypes at all. In this book, the main character has problems with her grandmother. She eventually solves them, but along the way discovers amny things about her heritage. This book is good for people who are interested in other cultures and for Chinese-Americans.

Great,,, Breath Taking

Yep is a great author who's fantasy and fiction stories are compelling and intriguing. I am only twelve but I think that is books are for all ages. Ribbons is no exception. He obviously knows what he's writing , when he's writing it.

Yep is very good at writing from a preteen point of view.

I am fifteen and read many young adult fiction books in my spare time. I enjoyed Ribbons very much because it was true to life and the details were accurate. My younger sister is in ballet, and I appreciated the accuracy and feeling incorperated into the story. The preteen point-of- view was also accurately depicted. Robin's feelings of frustration when the grandmother lets Robin's little brother eat the ice cream bar stood out to me. I could really identify with Robin and shared her feelings. All in all, I would definately recomend this book to pretty much anyone.
