An exciting tale for young readers that also contains a history lesson

The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles are underappreciated for their educational value in the area of history. Although the producers do engage in some creative license with the course of history, in general the historical aspects are accurate enough that the viewer can learn something of the course of the world during the First World War. This book is even better than the videos in that area, the author takes some time to more accurately explain what is happening in the Russian Empire when the Tsar was overthrown and the Bolsheviks were maneuvering for power against the Kerensky government. Indy has adopted the alias "Captain Defense" and is operating as a spy out of the French embassy in Petrograd. His job is to provide information about the current state of the revolution and Indy has befriended some of the student leaders of the Bolshevik movement. It is an exciting time as history is literally being made on nearly every street corner of the city. The story stays very true to what happened in that tumultuous time, when the provisional government led by Kerensky was trying to hold the country together and keep it in the war. The position of the French government as expressed by the ambassador is clear, "The Russians must stay in the war to keep the German armies occupied." Packed with excitement, the story of Indiana Jones in Russia not only entertains, it also contains a reasonably accurate history lesson.
