a thorough political and economic analysis of events in Chile surrounding the Pinochet coup

In 1973 the U.S. endorsed and indeed partially financed the overthrow of the democratically elected government of socialist Salvador Allende and helped install the openly fascist regime of Augusto Pinochet. This collection of extraordinarily insightful essays provides a penetrating analysis of both the political and economic stakes in this coup, and the dynamics of U.S. foreign policy. Political-economic analysis doesn't get much better than this. It's a pity that this book is now out of print.
