Helpul commentary

I bought this entire New Testament series commentary to help me in teaching an adult Sunday School class. I'm glad I did! All of the books include a verse-by-verse description that is very helpful. A teaching outline is included for each chapter, along with discussion questions and an area with a more deeper discussion of certain topics important to that chapter. As a new teacher, I have found this series invaluable in preparing my lessons. I think you'll like this one.

a useful devotional commentary

Bible study leaders and lay Christians looking for a devotional rather than technical commentary should find this series useful. Easley is a conservative protestant (prof. of New Testament at Mid-America Baptist Seminary, Memphis) but shows tolerance for differing interpretations of this difficult book of the Bible. The commentary is thoroughly organized and very easy to read. Every chapter follows the same outline: introductory story, verse-by-verse commentary on the text, conclusions and principles for the Christian life, practical application, a fitting prayer, an "in depth" section giving more historical detail, an outline for Bible study teachers, and a list of issues for discussion. Unfortunately there are no maps or illustrations. Recommendable for its intended goal (growing in Christ) and audience (layperson, Bible study leader). If you are searching for a heavier, technical commentary, then Aune and Beale are preferable.

Revelation revealed

Kendell Easley writes a reference book that helps the pastor and the lay person decipher the mystery of Christ's revelation to John and the world. As a Elder and lay leader in my church, I found that his balanced approach to all views of end times particularly important. Easley points out the interesting and vital, staying away from the trivial and titilizing. His introductions, verse by verse analysis and deeper insights allows the reader to remain at a basic level, or explore the deeper levels. I recommend this highly for anyone interested in studying or preaching on The Revelation, for it will challenge you to get beyond pat answers of End Times, and explore what God wanted us to know about Himself, Christ, Satan, Heaven, Hell and the New Heaven and New Earth. It won't be the only book you'll need, but it will be one you will return to again and again.
