Even-handed, Scriptural Exegesis

Many commentaries have been written on the New Testament book of Revelation and this one stands among the best. Roper immediately acknowledges the difficulty people through the centuries have had in understanding this book and presents a handful of the leading methods people use to interpret it today. Once this groundwork is laid, the author uses the Scripture to speak for itself, giving us a very sound reasoning along the way while not going off to the extremes of so many interpretations which invariably don't have the same Scriptural basis. This commentary will go a long way in straightening out many misunderstandings surrounding the imagery and meaning contained in the Biblical writing. Roper's scholarship and logical, textually consistent method will be of great benefit for generations of Biblical students to come. Many black and white photographs of the locations of the seven church congregations to which John's book was written, followed by several maps of the period and drawings of key points in the text, assisted me greatly in remembering those sections. These appendices are helpful. I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting to understand what Revelation's text actually said to the people it was originally written to and what is applicable to us today.

Great Commentary on Revelation

This volume, like all in the series, approach the Bible as the Word of God and inteprete it in a conservative, doctrinally sound manner. This is especially important with the Book of Revelation. This volume argues against the dominant Pre-Millennialist theories and explains the really meaning of this often difficult to understand text.
