Beauty and hope

I have a profound attachement for the Colorado plateau, particularly the canyon country that I've had the chance to visit a few times. This is the reason why I bought this book. I must say though that its quality goes beyond the Glen Canyon issue -- it conveys a message of hope: no matter what we do, mother nature will eventualy recover from wounds we have inflicted -- although a little human help can significantly accelerate the process. Beautiful pictures, incredible pictural comparisons and a practical path towards glen canyon recovery -- all these elements saw me close the book with a feeling of happiness and joy, and a reinforced conviction that many great things are possible!

Inspiration and hope

This is the long awaited and much needed successor to "The Place No One Knew". McGivney's insightful writing, and Kay's stunning imagery describe not only an amazing place but also an amazing opportunity to experience and revive one of the greatest places on Earth, once thought lost. Almost fifty years after the construction of a dam that drowned Glen Canyon -- a place described as the heart of the Colorado Plateau -- too many people are still unaware of the immense natural and cultural treasures lost. In a rare twist of fate we have been given a second chance to revisit some of its former grandeur - places many considered lost forever, and perhaps set the wheels in motion to bring it back to its former glory. This is a book for anyone - not only wilderness lovers or residents of the American West. It offers hope and opportunity to undo the sins of the past. How many chances like this is any of us likely to get? In "The Place No One Knew," David Brower wrote: "No man, in all the generations to be born of man, will ever be free to discover for himself one of the greatest places of all. This we inherited, and have denied to all others - the place no one knew well enough." If only Brower was alive to read this book!

Thoroughly enjoyed book, true learning experience

I just finished Resurrection this weekend and loved it. I had heard some about what was going on with the disappearance of Lake Powell and emergence of Glen Canyon, but I had no idea the width and depth of this case study and what it illustrates for the entire Southwest region of the U.S. Annette McGivney's words and James Kay's photos offer a compelling story. This book hopefully will cause people to do some soul searching about what really matters in the tug of war between man-made conveniences and the power of Mother Nature.

Great photography

This is a very informative book on the history and future of Glen Canyon.It is well written and the photos make you feel like you're right There. I have purchased several of Mr. Kay's photos over the years, and this is some of his best work. Enjoy, you'll feel as if you're on a great adventure. Alan.

Glen Canyon Revisited

This book by author Annette McGivney with stunning photographs by James Kay documents the emerging of Glen Canyon from the waters of the Colorado River due to the ongoing drought in the American West.Breathtaking photos clearly show the beauty of the recovering flora and fauna of the canyon. The demand for water is becoming much greater than the river can supply and is an issue which must be faced. At the same time the beauty of the Canyon must be preserved. This book is a must for environmentalists and preservationists. A great read!!
