Clarice listened but heard nothing. The room was too dark for her to see anything and she was still bound to a loosely-tied rope. That was awkward, but her head began to spin another escape plan. She didn't care where they had gone to but she knew they would be back and she had to be gone before they were back. She worked her teeth against her binds determined to get her hands out of it. The sudden firing of gunshots caused her to freeze. It stopped after a while, and it dawned on her that the Indians were either being raided or were raiding an unsuspecting merchant. She eased herself up and against the hardwood of the bed and continued working on the binds until they snapped. Tiptoeing across the creaking floorboards, she made it outside, but the scene her eyes met with was an unexpected one. Lying before her and murdered in cold blood were the Indians that had held her captive for years. She could still hear the shots being fired, but she wasn't going to stand there and wait to see who it was. Clarice tore into the woods running as fast as her legs could take her. Her feet trashed upon dried leaves and twigs which cut her, but she pushed on. All of a sudden a ray of light blinded her, and she ran headfirst into the strongest chest she had ever come in contact with.
