Book Overview

A masterpiece of the choral literature, Mozart's Requiem, his last work, was commissioned in the summer of 1791 but left incomplete at the time of the composer's death in December of the same year. His colleague Franz S ssmayer finished the work, based on sketches left by Mozart.
In the two centuries since its composition, the Requiem has become one of the most recorded and performed works in the repertoire. Reprinted here from...

Buyer beware!!!

This review is for the blue-green Mozart Requiem in full score, not the one pictured, but when I click on the one I ordered it takes me to this. If you purchase the blue-green one, know that it is in miniature. You will need to use a magnifying glass or break copyright laws and enlarge on a photocopy machine to read it. Buyer beware!!

Mozart's Requiem

I am pleased with the score. It is complete and was as described. I am working on a term paper and this will definately help with my presentation. This will definately give the player or not the magitude of what goes into an orchestral schore.

Mission Accomplished

This product is exactly what it says it is: the complete score to the most commonly performed version of Mozart's Requiem, the one finished by his pupil, Franz Xaver Sussmayr. My favorite thing about this score is that it includes notes on who wrote what! We're not positive who did how much precisely, but these sound to me reasonably accurate. Unbelievable writing, this piece. Includes translation of Latin.

Good score

It is a good score, not the best. The print isn't the clearest, but doable.

Really nice to have...

I was very happy when I had the opportunity to follow along and read the music throughout the entire Requiem. For a person who can read music, this book was intriguing and inspiring. It was also of interest that the book shows the transition from Mozart to that of Sussmayer. Mozart was truely inspired from the beginning to end. This book is great! Although I must agree, that those who can't read music would most likely find this book rather useless.

Mozart's most moving piece, faithfully reproduced

Mozart's Requiem is without a doubt his masterpiece, one can only imagine how it may have been had he a chance to finish it. This edition indicates which parts of the score were written by Mozart and which were by Sussmayer, his student. Any musician would agree that seeing the full score version of any piece can be insightful to the composers mood and thoughts when it was written., this in stark contrast to the popular trend among music publishers to condense an entire orchestral score into a keyboard/SATB layout.I reccommend this book for musicians who have at least an basic understanding of musical notation. The layperson would likely be unable to do much other than stare at the pages. But for anyone who can follow along, it's always fun to read along with a recording and notice new flurries and nuances every time!
