William Boone. When the Taelons came to Earth, he was tapped to be the human who would work most closely with Da'an, the mysteriously powerful and enigmatic leader who speaks for the alien Companions. Boone became many things: confidant, bodyguard, interpreter...and undercover agent for the human Resistance. But little has been told of Boone's past, of the events that prepared him for this perilous assignment. Now it is revealed: from his duty overseas during the S/I War to his life in the United States, from the arrival of aliens on Earth to his first encounter with the mysterious Augur, here for the first time is the story behind mankind's first double agent in the underground war between human and alien--and the Resistance's first martyr.
In terms of a TV to book rendition that often can create a bland product that has no bearing at all to the TV show it springs from this book does a great job. Its not going to win a prize for literature or anything but it does a fairly good job holding the integrity of the characters together and keeping the reader interested.
A book worth reading

This is one of the best books I have ever read. The human nature and spiritual exploring the novle expresses can deeply move the readers. And the background--a science fiction world--supplies such a wonderful, broad environment to set in the very story about humans and talons. The whole story is so complex and mysterious that it makes me take an interest in it.I am very glad to learn that 'Ma'El and 'Da'An are almost the same person, both have elegant behaviour and are much more intellectual than orther Talons. The tow represent a noble spirit and possibility of friendship between humans and talons. But it doesn't come ture in the end.For me,a big fan of 'Da'An,it is a pity.By the way,the TV show is rather good.
Another great EFC novel

More for EFC fans than the previous "First Protector", this is a more personal novel focusing on one of EFC's most beloved characters, William Boone. This book chronicles some of Boone's life as a cop before the death of his wife and his double-agent alliance with the Resistance and the Taelons. I never really got much of a look into Boone's mind during the first season of EFC, so being able to see these events through his eyes was very, very pleasing for me. I think I like him better now, that I've seen someone's fairly accurate portrayal of him. This book is shorter and less lyrical than "Protector" and less eerily dreamlike than "Arrival," but it's about a cop-the writing is in sync with that. Slightly confusing and a bit choppy were the letters from Boone's wife Kate, sprinkled throughout the text, but this did not detract much from my overall enjoyment.A minor note: The cover is slightly inaccurate, as it identifies Boone as "Da'an's first protector". In fact, Da'an's first protector was Ronald Sandoval. Boone was the second.
