Removing Your Mask is about peeling away our false selves so that our authentic selves can shine through. Being real or authentic and following your truth is the path of the adult, and the author, makes it clear that following your own path takes a lot of present moment awareness and practice. This book is a practical guide to following your higher self, dealing with petty tyrants who try to manipulate and dominate, and learning how to recognize the lies of the mask. I have read books and articles on being real and authentic, but this book made it the clearest for me to see my own mask--my own false self--and the destruction of living an inauthentic life. I have dealt with a lot of tyrants and destructive people, and in 2008 I had a major medical crisis where I almost died. I was in a coma for six days. Coming out of a coma, I regressed a lot and did not want my real self to be seen. Having trouble walking and remembering things made me fearful. People in my life tried to control me and it was a real struggle for me to regain my authentic power. I found techniques provided by Marion Moss that gave me the strength to stand up every time I felt knocked down, to stop isolating and hiding behind and identifying with my illness. This book is an excellent guide to giving courage to people on walking the adult path, and taking back freedom from tyrants and control freaks. It is empowering and it teaches you how to stop reacting and to learn how to respond to difficult people and situations. Once you do this, you can begin to live with more joy, peace, and lightness.
