An Unexpected surprise

I found this little book tucked away in the Religious section of my local favorite bookstore, drawn only at first by the beautiful cover. I soon realized, however, that the cover was only a facade for the even more lovely contents that it harbored. While Christian devotionals can be more prevalent that voyeristic TV shows these days, this book offers something beyond the typical "make me feel good" devotional. Dire, by means of a three-step process involving scripture, reflection, and prayer, gives us daily tools to use as we travel on the journey to a closer walk with God. His book offers refreshing insight into scriptures that we have all read many times before. He includes devotionals and prayers that reflect on the deepest meanings of the accompanying scriptures and also serve to awaken the intellect as well as spirit within. I found his book to be interesting, refreshing, and, most of all, a successful attempt to provide the Christian reader with a more profound and intrinsic experience with God. This book will definitely not find a home with the many other dust-gathering devotionals in my book case, but will, rather, be something that I use on a daily basis and also add to my list of books well worth giving others.
