red hats- fact or fiction?

This book was very interesting reading and reminded of someone I might have met at one time in my life. It was very informative about history and Oregon. My question is: was this an autobiographical book, a story based on fact, or total fiction? I look forward to reading more works by this author, and so do my four children, and six grandchildren.
