Good book for Linux greenhorns

This book is recommended for non techno people who know nothing about Linux and just want to get a feel of a non windows OS. It offers step by step instructions with graphics on how to work on the Gnome desktop. Overall, this is a good book for Linux greenhorns although I think its title is misleading. It should read 'Gnome GUI Fast and Easy.'

Good for setup/newbie. No help in maintaining/upgrading.

It does just use the Gnome XWindow system. It's good as long as you don't have a "bleeding edge" computer (it doesn't tell you where to get help for newer components). Goes over the basic install and running programs in Gnome (basic programs like spreadsheets, calendar, calculator, etc.). No info. on setting up web server, ftp server, cron jobs, etc, but it does not advertise itself as that. It does its job.

Great for the Newbie Linux user!!!!!!!!!

This a great book for the new Linux person. Where else are you going to get very simple practical information about using Gnome on Linux. Who cares if the "purist don't like this book". There is a real need for this type of book and I was happy to discover a jewel like this. If you are new to Linux this is a good book at a good price.
