A comprehensive introduction to the art and science of thoroughbred handicapping. Covers the major factors for determing a race winner. This description may be from another edition of this product.
Having read many books on the topic, I can say unequivocally that this is the best, most comprehensive book on handicapping thoroughbreds that I have ever read (despite the inaccurate title). The late Dick Mitchell shared my opinion and he wrote several fine books himself. My only reservation in recommending "Recreational Handicapping" is that it has been out of print for years and several sections (e.g. speed and pace figures) are dated. Regardless, it contains so much timeless substance that it's still worth tracking down a copy and reading it thoroughly. The out-of-date sections can be supplemented easily from Jim Quinn's website www.turfpedia.com and other, more modern texts, which is what I've done. Jim, if you read this, please revise and republish. I know I've made that request before and you are a busy gentleman, but "Recreational Handicapping" truly merits a second edition.
