Reconciliation and Justification: The Sacrament and Its Theology

Reconciliation and Justification offers a thorough historical and theological background on reconciliation and justification. It is an excellent textbook for theology, a good stimulus for discussion, and a significant contribution to all theological libraries. Since Vatican II the sacrament of reconciliation has met with both successes and difficulties. Author Kenan B. Osborne, O.F.M., contends that one of the main reasons for difficulty with the renewal of this sacrament is that it lacks the integration of justification theology. He outlines key issues on justification within the biblical theology of St. Paul and traces the historical, theological, and liturgical developments from the first century to the present. Thus, Fr. Osborne enriches our conception of reconciliation through these reflective christological and ecclesiological dimensions.

Written by an authority on Catholic Theology

I met Father Kenan at a retreat and saw first hand what a (and I am using small words) well-educated, humble and loving man he is. This book is a must read for spiritual growth, especially Catholic, and very welcomed by me. In my past, I have attended 5 years of Bible Study Fellowship and had an introduction to some Protestant theology which made sense to me. It is enlightening to see some Catholics opening their eyes and minds to the theology of reconciliation and justification. This study teaches us about God's tremendous love for each of us. God's mind is way above any of ours on earth and His ways surpass ours. This book is difficult to read for people like me but, well worth it. I highly recommend it, so get out your dictionarys (the author has an excellent vocabulary) and get to work. Your faith will be much richer.
