I love it...but not everyone will.

This book is clearly NOT for everyone. It is not in the typical textbook format and seems to be a much more concise version of what could be a very difficult textbook. I find it an "easy read" (for a text) and love the use of actual experimentation to explain why certain conclusions were made. Past books I've had for classes tell you what something is, but don't always go into the details of how those conclusions were made. My roommate, however, hates this book. She thinks it reads too much like a narrative and too little like a graduate-level textbook. Basic overview: If you like textbooks that flow well and give background, this book is for you. If you prefer the traditional text with bulleted points that really just tell you what something is without the background, don't bother with this.

Still an excellent classic

This book is the most condensed, accessible discussion of genetic manipulation techniques and methods around. Armed with this, one can move on and understand any other text in the area.

An indispensable asset to students and instructors alike

One of the best books available for students and instructors of molecular biology and genetics. Easy-to-understand diagrams and well-crafted text make this volume a pleasure to read.

It is exceptionally outstanding book .

The book describes the most advanced subject of recombinant DNA technology in a very simple and fascinating way.

A must for those wanting to grasp modern molecular biology.

This book is actually a readable text explaining many of the pioneering methods of molecular biology. It does get quite technical, but it does a fairly good job explaining difficult concepts with the help of illustrations. I originally used this book as a text, and keep it now as a reference when I need to recall details about a technique. For those without any science background, it may be a challenge, but if you have the interest, it would be a lot of fun. The only bad thing about the book is that it really needs to be updated, although I should note that most of the techniques described are in current use with only slight modifications.
