Great story of WWII generation European/American success

Sumichrast kept my attention with his ability to recount some of his adventures starting with the fight against the Nazis, a daring escape from the communist who took over his beloved homeland and his many trials and successes before and after his arrival in America. He must have kept an amazingly detailed diary to recount with such vivid detail the experiences that broght him from rags to riches. I love stories about the people of his generation. So much was going on to distract yet they kept on about their goals. Sumichrast is a perfect example. He tells the story of the battle with the communists who would keep family members apart just to preserve their power over people. Before that their was the shooting war with the Nazis. Later the struggle to get through the red tape to finially come to America. I loved the book. I have to say also that he writes an interesting story using drama, adventure and a great sinse of humor. It will inspire and entertain. I highly recommend this book.

Excellent! A must read for everyone.

I couldn't put this book down. Michael Sumichrast does an excellent job of expressing his personal life story. The struggle this man and his wife encountered while attempting to start a new life in the free world is rewarded by his great achievements and successful career. It is the story of an anusual determination, energy and courage.

A must read!

This book is an amazing account of one man's inspiring journey to our incredible country. It speaks volumes on courage, persistence, determination and love. A must-read for all Americans, it brings a realistic and human side to a war that most of us only read about in history books. Further, it highlights the boundless opportunity here in America that most of us take for granted. It made me appreciate all that I have.
