Book Overview

Rebecca Eash is just as spirited as her mother Ellie, who readers grew to love in Book 1 of Ellie's People: An Amish Family Saga. Becky works for another Amish family and spends time with her Mennonite friend, Susan Miller. Her gentle days in the 1950s are filled with laundry and canning, barn-raisings, a taffy pull, and quilting bees. But as Susan's brother, James, shows an interest in Becky and their relationship deepens, she becomes embroiled in...

Rebecca was an excellent read.

I started this series 3 day ago and just finished this book. I love reading about Amish culture and this book was full of it. We have a lot to learn of their appreciation of the simple life.

Excellent

This book is the sequel to Mary Christner Borntrager's Ellie. In this book, Ellie and David's daughter Rebecca finds a true friend in Susan Miller, a Mennonite girl of her own age. But, when she falls in love with Susan's brother James, she soon finds herself questioning the exclusive claims of the Amish church. This is the story of Rebecca's journey through faith and the world around her. Overall, I found this to be an excellent book. Unlike Ellie, this book does a great job of showing how God works through many different churches, rather than just the Amish. In fact, I would say that this is an excellent book for any young Christian person, showing them in very concrete ways about faith and following Christ. I love this book, and give it my highest recommendations.

Written by a woman with Amish roots

A second book in a series of books about Amish/Mennonite folk, "Rebecca" was uplifting. This story is about a young Amish girl who struggles with growing up Amish. Rebecca struggles with English, Amish and Mennonite lifestyles until she chooses the right way for her. This book gives good detail to the lives of the Amish.

An intriguing story.

"Rebecca" continues the Amish story which began in "Ellie". Rebecca is the daughter of Ellie and David Eash. Read about a taffy pull, a box social, and about working out as an Amish Maut [a hired girl]. And then there's the question of who to date. Her good friend Susan's brother James is interested in her. But, they are Mennonite, while Rebecca is Amish, and the church youths are only allowed to date within the church. What should Rebecca do? Read about the trials and temptations of being an Amish teenager in this exciting book.
