Christians Wake Up!

The book, contrary to some of the criticisms in a few of these reviews, is actually quite good. Though it may be true that there's not much "new" in the debates presented, it serves as a well organized reminder to those who have gotten lazy or complacent about knowing and, as a result, sharing the scripture with Catholics. Some of those applauded above, Scott Hahn (especially) as well as Kreeft, should not be considered "previously great" Protestant theologians or speakers. Frankly, and honestly, as one who pays considerable attention, I had never heard of them until they became Catholic! They have become the "poster children" of Catholicism's budding and growing "Hey look; a Protestant leader turned Catholic" campaign. To their negative credit, they (again, especially Hahn) are doing some appreciable damage to a Biblically accurate Christianity (that would expose much of Catholicism's error). As is too often the case, Christians who rightly regard the Bible as their sole authority, need to wake up and get serious about knowing the scriptures well; not just their true origins but what they truly say. If they do, the Hahns and Kreefts of the world will pose little problem; if they don't, the flowery, passionate but erroneous talk (which is Scott Hahn's forte) will easily whisk lazy Bible students away into a mess of twisted views and false theology. Buy this book to recognize the problem, and then get serious; dust off your Bible, study, and go help eliminate the problem.

Reasoning from the Scriptures with the Catholics

Being born and raised Catholic, this book really opened my eyes. When you compare the Catholic beliefs to the "real" scriptures, not the Catholic translated works, I realized how I have been kept in the dark for so long. Excellent book, based on scriptural facts. The Author has done his research and homework. This book is not meant to offend Catholics, it is a Bible Study showing the differences in Catholism vs: what the Bible actually has to say. Great Bible study ~

False prophets? Jesus warned us about them......Papacy???

This book denotes the very basics pertaining to the flawed doctrine of the Roman Catholic Church. True new testament scripture is that found in the writings of the original apostles. Nothing in scripture supports the seat of the Pope, the claims of infalability, nor how the church is to carry itself as claimed by the Roman Catholic Church. Christ did not come sit on a throne of gold, to build a city of gold and wealth such as that found in Italy. The Pope lives high on the hog, while millions suffer. Christ came as a humble carpenter and died as one in the eyes of many throughout the world. However, he died as the savior of the world to true Orthodox Christians. Politics and power have corrupted the Church through the history of the Catholics and over time, corrupt doctrine has become tradition. Peter himself was chastened by Paul for falling toward the old law to appease the masses. It is ironic that the Catholic Church would claim to build upon Peter as their rock. The Rock is Christ and is not to be mistaken. Why would Christ build his church on an imperfect man? There would have been no reason for Christ to come to earth and be slain. I'm pretty sure that the poor ratings of this book have been made by Catholics trying to defend their faith. However, the words of Jesus shall not pass away and they will not be altered by those who respect the base doctrines set forth by Christ through the Apostles. In the end all that matters is what side of the cross you are on. If you have led a life of deceit and have lead others down the path of Catholicism I pitty your souls.Pray to God, not Mary. Have a personal relationship with the Lord, not through a priest. Believe in the Lord, not the Pope. Believe that Christ is the one true way to salvation, not sacraments and works. Do not be deceived by wolves in sheep's clothing. Satan is crafty and will use goodness to blind the masses as he as done through the Catholic church. The truth is in this book and I urge anyone reviewing these comments to read it and judge for themselves.

If you study the Bible with a Roman Catholic, this is it!

Ecumenical Bible study groups are flourishing, and I lead one which includes Roman Catholics. The benefit I got from Rhodes' book was being able to see Bible passages through the eyes of Catholics and gently to offer alternative interpretations of passages as we came across them in our studies.Rhodes offers a brilliant Protestant analysis of pertinent Bible passages used by Roman Catholics to defend their beliefs and practices. He clearly distinguishes Protestant beliefs from Catholic beliefs in the doctrinal areas of scripture and authority, salvation, the sacraments, purgatory, and Mary. These explanations helped me understand what my Roman Catholic group members believe and why they believe it.I would highly recommend this book to anyone involved in interfaith witnessing. It raises awareness of what might be sensitive issues of doctrine in an otherwise friendly discussion. The only caution I would give would be not to use Rhodes' sample questions to Roman Catholics directly from the book. His questions may come across as overly confrontational. Instead, I would urge a more gentle sharing (in appropriate circumstances) of the rich truths Rhodes has presented in his book responding to Roman Catholic beliefs.

Excellent

I have researched a number of books that critique some of the Catholic beliefs using sound arguments, and have found a few authors who I feel are both highly credible and relatively unbiased. They are Ron Rhodes and Norman Geisler. Ron's book is very practical to use as he includes a number of thought provoking questions that a Catholic should answer to help determine whether the Catholic's views on certain Bible verses and traditions are accurate. I would recommend that Catholics order and read this book or any one by Norman Geisler.
