Solid manual

This is a very solid manual for InDesign. I also have the Adobe "Classroom In a Book" for CS4 InDesign. The Adobe book is good to get started, but not so good when you actually start using InDesign to create documents. I recommend "Real World Adobe InDesign CS4" highly for a day to day manual.

Indepth understanding

This book is chock full of good information for new designers needing to know more about the production side of the world. This book is a great reference and enlightened me on aspects I didn't even know I needed to know. I listen to David Blatner's "InDesign Secrets podcasts", and his humor and knowledge carry through in this book.

Intelligent people who can explain a complex program well

RW InDesign CS is a wonderful book. I own the previous (RW InDesign 2) version as well. Both Blatner and Kvern know InDesign well. Kvern has a slightly twisted spin on the world that makes it possible for him to make it interesting and exciting to uncover the details of InDesign. Both are always interested in helping other users in online forums. The book is meticulously designed with abundant screenshots with real world explanations. The book covers more than the basics, with sections that simply change your perspective about the possibilities in InDesign. It is just part of my upgrade plan to always upgrade to the next version of Real World InDesign CS. I've done it twice and look forward to the next one.

Expert Information

A wonderful and thorough job of covering topics such as tonal and color corrections, scans, color management, spot colors and duotones, prepress and the web. I found answers to topics such as spot colors in this book that I haven't found anywhere else. The authors are expert in their field and portray that information in an easy to understand format. They also throw in some humor here and there. You'll get very comfortable using levels and curves by the time you complete this book, it is very thorough and in-depth. You'll learn how to judge what adjust needs to be made and the best way to do it. Like most full-featured programs these days, there is more than one way to achieve a task. These authors teach you the most expedient way to accomplish a wide range of tasks. You'll learn how to calibrate your monitor, make tonal corrections, remove color casts and silhouette an image for catalog work and more. This book should be on the shelf of every serious photographer

Best InDesign Reference

Real World InDesign 1.5 is the best book available if you want to get the most out of InDesign. The book is full of practical information that can increase your productivity. Real World InDesign is well written. The author's easy, understandable, and concise style of writing makes what can be difficult subject matter (e.g., color management) comprehensible. The book is full of screen shots complete with detailed captions that aid text explinations. Weather you are new to InDesign or have been using InDesign since the initial release, Real World InDesign 1.5 is the book for you. This is one book that you will keep beside your computer, not in the bookshelf. I highly recommend Real World InDesign 1.5.
