I have an answer too.

John Ankerberg and I go way back, you might say. I remember watching his show, The John Ankerberg Show, on CBN back in the 1980s when I was yet a Christian. Like many Evangelical Christians, I turned to apologetics to bolster my faith. John's show was just the ticket, and it gave me my fill of reasons to believe, or so I thought. Although my Christian faith eventually waned and disappeared, I continued for a while to watch The John Ankerberg Show just to see how "wrong" those Christian apologists really are. Ankerberg's latest book that he has coauthored with John Weldon and is entitled, Ready With an Answer For the Tough Questions About God, has not changed my mind. There's very little if anything in it that I haven't heard before from apologists. The arguments presented here are the same old arguments we critics have refuted time and again. But don't let me influence your opinion too much! Here's a rundown of some of the book's main points: Christianity should be believed because many "great minds" have accepted the Bible as truth. If the evidence for the resurrection were presented to a court of law, then the resurrection would be deemed to have been a historical event. The Jesus Seminar can be dismissed as "nonsense." Evolution could not possibly have happened. The Old Testament contains hundreds of specific prophecies of Jesus' coming. The Bible is inerrant because God inspired it, and no errors have been found in it. The Bible contains an explanation for the evaporation and the condensation of water resulting in rain--an explanation that can only be explained as being inspired by God. You can make up your own mind as to the validity of such claims, but after reading Ready With an Answer, I cannot help but to see it as similar to Erich von Däniken's ancient-astronaut theories. In both cases we are presented with evidence from very old documents that may appear outwardly to have a basis in something much greater than what people of those eras might have been able to know or do. However, all three men, Ankerberg, Weldon, and Erich von Däniken don't seem to understand the great depth, passion and power of the human intellect and imagination. In the same way that people who lived long ago may have imagined machines that can fly, they also might have been able to use their scientific curiosities to understand how rain occurs. No ancient astronauts or Gods are necessary! I could go on, but I think you know where I'm going with this. I can only ask you to read Ready With an Answer and come up with your own conclusions. It's an interesting book, and whether you come away as a believer or skeptic, you won't think it was a waste of time.

Good

Good, concise book on apologetics. The evidence they present for Christ's resurrection is thin, but I like the refutations of the various "empty tomb" theories. They also have an excellent refutation of the current myth that Christian resurrection theology evolved from pagan "rising god" myths. The worst part is probably the part where they ask "would the evidence for Christ stand up in a court of law?" Dr. Ankerberg totally misuses testimonials in this section, and merely stacks the cards in favor of Christianity in an almost unscholarly manner by quoting lawyers who happen to be Christians. One could do the same thing with almost any belief! It would have been better to quote the lawyers who believed in Christ -and- their reasons why. The sections on science and the Bible are good, the section on Biblical prophecy is decent but contains some inconclusive evidence. This book would have been much better had they gone more into archaeology and the evidence for Christ's resurrection. I really enjoyed most of the book, though, and it really offers good food for thought.

A fabulous, easy-to-read apologetic title.

This is a fantastic book that will give you a concise, logical look at many, many facets of Christian apologetics. One of my favorite sections of the book focuses on Biblical prophecy, and discusses in detail the many, many prophecies written hundreds of years B.C. that point directly to Jesus Christ as our Savior. This book will enable you to talk intelligently on numerous subjects that are relevant to your Christian walk. I also highly recommend it for every Christian in college. (Like me.)

Single best Christian apologetic book I've read - it rocks!

This is a one-stop-shop of major reasons to believe in the existence of God and the truth of Christianity and is presented in a compelling and inspiring fashion. Easy to read, yet scholarly in its objective, logical, and systematic presentation of arguments. Highly recommended for both personal use and for giving to others. The three major parts of the book are: 1. Jesus Christ: The Most Unique Man in History; 2. Creation: The Most Unique Phenomenon of Existence; 3. The Bible: The Most Unique Book on Earth. It goes way beyond a "I'm embarrassed to talk about Jesus" support book. Although the emphasis is on a positive presentation of Christian arguments, one result is that it TOASTS the atheistic/humanistic world view with the light of truth. If you have never been exposed to the Christian perspective, read this book. You will be staggered at how ridiculus a theory macro evolution really is and be amazed that such effective arguments for the truth of God and Christianity could be left out of public education and mainstream discourse.
