Favourite bedtime book

My two-year-old (tho almost three, and holds her own as youngest kid in her pre-school) LOVES this book. So does my husband. So do I. The versions of the classic children's tales (Three little pigs, Billy Goats Gruff, Goldilocks, etc.) are the best I've read. In addition, that same writer offers funny, different-perspective 2nd versions of some of the classic tales that are great, too. And then there are plenty of original stories by an array of other authors. The illustrator is amazing, and we really like the pictures. I was surprised at how well the illustrations "tell" these read-aloud stories to my daughter as one of the adults reads aloud the words. It is Pema's first pick most nights, and we are happy about this, since it is much less stress to read multiple stories from one excellent book, then to search through a bunch of other books for the three that we/she want right now. The down-side of this would be the size of the book, but it is printed on very thin paper, and so is less weighty than I would expect. It is practically a magic book, with the amount of quality cuddly story-time that is packed in here. We read and read, and we are not tired of most of it yet. The minute-labels might be a put-off to some parents, but you know, it turns out to just be handy... when she says "one more please", you can -- without flipping ahead -- easily assess the "encore" piece, and find one that fits the time as well as the mood.
