a gift of love

my son bought this book for his wife of 8 years. they both enjoy this type of fairy tale and she loves it and him.

fun fractured fairy tale

In this retelling of the classic fairy tale Rapunzel, the author sets the story in the 1970's, and Rapunzel becomes a redhead with a long braid, imprisoned in a tall apartment building with a broken elevator, while the witch becomes an evil cafeteria lunch lady who also happens to be Rapunzel's motorcycle-riding aunt. The prince is replaced with a high school rock star, and the story continues to a predictably happy ending. Parents will enjoy the witty artwork populated with details from the 1970's, since the artist cleverly incorporates the music, films, fashion, and design form the period into the illustrations. The illustrations, done in pen, ink, and watercolor, incorporate an exaggerated cartoon-like style that meshes with the comical aspects of this fractured fairy tale. Sure to please parents who remember the 1970's as well as fairy tale fans, this version of Rapunzel would make a fun addition to a fractured fairytale storytime. Recommended for ages 4 through eight.

red heads take notice

My grandaughter has beautiful red hair and what first attracted her to the book when we went to the library on one of her visits for Camp G-pa G-ma, was the fact that Rupunzel had red hair as well. We read it several times during her visit. The next year she came back for "camp" and the first thing she wanted at the library was this book but it was checked out.I was surprised that she remembered it. She was also so disappointed they didn't have it that she had me checking to see if it was in everyday she was here so of course I had to buy it for her. I think it says a lot for a book that a child who first read it at the age of 4 would remember it for an entire year. It is the same old story but with a contemporary twist. I'm just sorry I didn't buy it for her sooner. It is a fun book to read and the illustrations are great.

This Book Really Is Groovy!

My daughter and her parents are crazy about Lynn Roberts. The stories are completely engaging. And the pictures are so interesting and fun that it is a pleasure to read them over and over again. Roberts offers a cute and off-the-wall take on classic stories. And there is something fun for everyone in them. This book really is extraordinarily groovy!
