Book Overview

On the very day that Jacky Faber is to wed her true love, she is kidnapped by British Naval Intelligence and forced to embark on yet another daring mission--this time to search for sunken Spanish gold. But when Jacky is involved, things don't always go as planned. Jacky has survived battles on the high seas, the stifling propriety of a Boston finishing school, and even confinement in a dank French prison. But no adventure has quite matched her opportunistic...

Exploring the deep

Jacky is back in England, wanting to marry Jaimy and settle down. But the British aren't letting an asset like her go, especially when they have an assignment ready for her. The British have found a sunken Spanish ship loaded with gold that could refill their treasury, they get Jacky and Jaimy to salvage it. Jacky and he enjoying the warm weather, and even the island of Cuba. Jacky has her crew along with both a new cook, and cabin boy and girl. She also meets up with Captain Lord Richard Allen whose still very much still interested in her. Its a rip roaring good read, loaded with action and adventure a page at a time.

The book is GREAT, but I was given paperback instead of a hardcover

I love how the later books bring up past characters in a non-obtrusive way. You get deeper into the lore and Jacky's sneaky wild ways that get her into mistakes she shimmies herself out of. What I do hate is the fact that I ordered a hardcover book and I was given a paper back. It is unfortunate because I already own a very new paperback, but wanted a hardcover for display purposes and having another paperback is extremely frustrating.

better than ever

I find I have to ration my reading with this book, otherwise I'd finish it in a day. Halfway through and I feel utter joy whenever I return to reading it. I don't know if the writer is getting better at his job, or if I'm getting ever more attached to his characters and the world they live in. One aspect of this particular book is how varied the world is that the writer lets us travel through. That is part of why I enjoy it so much. I suspect I'll be re-reading it for a long time.

Jacky is finally at it again!

I have fallen in love with this series and was very excited to find that the newest installment is finally available! I enjoyed almost the entire story (a few slow moments, but not enough to drag me down) and hardly could put the book down just like the previous books in the series. Other reviewers have mentioned that the danger doesn't seem to be quite as dire as it usually is, and to this I would have to agree. Personally, though, I read the books for the crazy situations and Jacky's fun and often flirtatious personality and antics! This being said, I enjoyed the book immensely and absolutely cannot wait for the next one!

Excellent!

Rapture of the Deep by L.A. Meyer is EXCELLENT!!! It's the seventh book in the Bloody Jack series, and it's the only series that I'm thoroughly ecstatic about before and after finishing each installment. They are fun, exciting, intelligent, silly and serious at the same time. As the main character gets older-she's sixteen now-her adventures become more dangerous and she becomes more and more daring. Jacky Faber is such a great heroine and the author is so very talented. There are multiple levels to the writing: some breezing over young heads with one simple meaning while holding an entirely different meaning for the older, more astute reader. Conflict, action, setting, description, deep point of view, dialogue, pacing is spot on perfect in this and every book! But they keep getting better! Jacky is growing up with her fans, friskier than ever. She keeps popping up in historical events like a much smarter, prettier Forrest Gump! In this installment, she's been kidnapped by British Naval Intelligence and forced to embark on a dangerous mission for the Crown disguised as an American on a scientific mission off the coast of Havana. Romance! Did I mention romance? Jacky has boys and men on almost every continent enthralled by her charm and surprise visits with old friends spice things up. Captain Richard Allen's arrival on the scene was one of my favorites in the story! The Calvary saves the day in a battle at sea...Priceless! Can't say anymore as I'm not one for spoilers, but do read this book or start the series if you haven't. It begins with Bloody Jack. It's a shame that more young adults don't read historical fiction because this is the best series out there. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT! But major suckage. I read it in less than two days. Now I have to wait another year for The Wake of the Lorelei Lee. Heavy sigh...

Great addition to the series!

Wow, if you haven't read this series before- you need to! It's amazing. L.A. Meyer is a fantastic writer and he brings his characters to life. I've read each book in this series about three times each and I know this one will be read again and again as well. I've gotten both my family and friends hooked on this series and now I can't wait for the next one to come out! Jacky is realistic, funny, loving, caring, and an all together fabulous main character. I've learned so much about the 1800s from reading this series. Another thing I really like about this series is it's well written. Meyer is an amazing writer and his books are just terrific. When reading I always feel like I'm right there alongside the characters and experiencing everything they are. I highly recommend this book to anyone who's read the rest of the series and for people who haven't, definitely go check out Bloody Jack today! * May contain spoilers for people who haven't read the rest of the series* I knew it was too good to be true when reading the prologue that Jaimy and Jacky were actually going to be married. Of course it wasn't going to happen. Jacky was whisked away on another mission for England and this time ventured down to Key West with the other jolly members of the Nancy B. Jaimy and the Dolphin crew weren't far behind, but a lot of Jacky's past lovers also happened to be there- Richard Allen, Flaco Jimenez.. and some of her enemies too- Flashby. Rapture of the Deep took place in a setting none of the other books have ever taken place in and I enjoyed reading about Jacky's adventures as a diver- I knew her swimming would pay off! I really like little Joannie and she reminds of Jacky when she was younger. The characters in Rapture of the Deep were just as alive as in the rest of the series and I really liked how this book took place mostly on the open sea. I'm definitely keeping a weathered eye on the horizon for the next book in the series. Keep up the good work, Mr. Meyer! GREAT

Not only is the book fantastic, the shipping was amazing. I ordered it, expecting to wait a week or so before getting it, but lo and behold, two days later it was here!
