Katie Evans' book, Random Acts to Lighten Up!, is a compendium of easy ways to be in charge of your weight and your life. It's a book to pick up and read a few pages anytime you need a boost to help you stay on your path. Anywhere you open it, you will find common sense guidelines, inspiring quotes, affirmations, explanations that help you maneuver the food world, and a lot of loving advice. There are brief essays, recipes sprinkled here and there, fill-in lists to help you define and meet your goals, and suggestions for handling the stresses and challenges of holidays. The reason for reading the book might be summed up in this excerpt quote: "If you always do/What you always did/You'll always be/What you've always been/You'll always get/What you've always got/And you'll always have/What you've always had." This book provides in small bites the encouragement you need to make major changes in your life.

I found Random Acts to Lighten Up! an exceptional way to sit and take a look at why I'm eating what I am. I have never been an over weight person but I love to eat. I eat if I'm bored, reading a book, when I'm socializing with friends, etc. I find myself getting angry with myself after I've downed a handful of cookies! I have noticed that I can't just eat anything I want anymore beacuse my body just doesn't keep it off like it used to. Not only that but it makes me unhealthy. I want to be able to eat food and enjoy it, and you can. But it's about eating less. When you actually take the time to sit and think about why you're eating you may find that it's linked to either stress or emotional things that are happening in your life. When you read this book you're able to analyze why you eat what you do and why for the moment you may seem satisfied. You can't eat you troubles away. I learned that you need to listen to your body and eat when it needs food and not look to food as a comforting friend.
