Regency Romance At It's Best

I always enjoy reading Barbara Metzger. Both of these stories are fun reading. The characters are delightful.

Two fun regencies in one book

RAKE'S RANSOM and A LOYAL COMPANION by Barbara Metzger April 16, 2006 Rating: 4/5 Stars I enjoyed reading this two-in-one novel by Barbara Metzger. Two older novels were reprinted and published in one binding, RAKE'S RANSOM and A LOYAL COMPANION. Both actually have similar plots, but were slightly different. RAKE'S RANSOM featured a young woman whom most people assumed would never find a husband, due to her tomboyish ways. Along comes a man she thinks is her childhood friend Arthur, but instead he turns out to be the Lord Clairborne, whom she kidnaps as a joke and then falls under his spell. He is known to be a rake, and she has been found in an uncompromising position with him. To rectify things, he offers to marry her. In A LOYAL COMPANION, we again have a young woman that seems to be not very good marriage material, but she finds herself attached to a man who is nearly an outcast to society, thus almost making her an outcast. In this novel however, the book is partly narrated by A DOG, which I found was done very humorously and had me laughing at all the right places. Both books were fun, as Barbara Metzger's novels tend to be. I highly recommend these to the romance fan that has yet to read a regency. She definitely is the queen of the regency romance, and I hope to read more by her.
