Good book for a younger reader

I would say first off, I did love this book. It was exciting and engrossing. It's a twist on the well known tale, so it doesn't follow the original one. It takes place in current day with Kat van Tassel learning about her legacy. About every other chapter is written in the original Katrina van Tassel's time as a diary entry. I did lose sleep staying up too late to find out what happened next. I knocked off a star for 2 reasons. 1....I could've done without the major focus on the lesbian relationship. Yes, it made sense as you went along, but I think the main story should've focused on other things to make the story stronger. It felt like filler that just didn't need to be there. 2....when the Horseman speaks, his dialogue comes out just as a teenage girl would've written it. The author could've put more thought into how different people would act or speak. Overall it was a good book and would recommend it.
