Fantastic read!

I wish this author would write more books! These would make great movies. The author guides thru a compelling and suspenseful story. You never know how his plots will end which really keeps you turning the pages to find out. If you like legal thrillers I would highly recommend all of this authors books.

Battle of wits: characters and critics

Having read State v. Justice and Silent Son long ago but only in the past few months managed to find Raising Cain, I wish that Gallatin Warfield were more prolific. His novels enthrall me. Whatever the plot, Warfield invariably pits two seasoned warriors against each other in a courtroom where right eventually prevails. The warriors, Gardner Lawson (the prosecutor in State v. Justice and Silent Son) and Kent King (the defense attorney in those books), switch roles in Raising Cain, thus providing a particular character development that enhances the drama of the case at hand. Yes, I easily cheer for Lawson, but Warfield's depiction of his opponent found me at one time slamming the book shut and throwing it on the floor, exclaiming, "Damn you, King!" Now that's involvement. Reading over 100 books a year, I'm a devourer--not a critic. Nonetheless, I don't understand the negative comments included in the reviews appearing above in Publishers Weekly and Library Journal. Nothing in Raising Cain would I consider "utilitarian," "shallow," "lackluster," "disappointing," or "stilted." To the contrary, I find this book and Warfield's other two works to be exciting explorations into the psyches of both the criminal and legal minds operating in plots that stagger the imagination. Am I overdoing my admiration for Gallatin Warfield? Tough. Someone's got to answer to the two people sharing the name of A Customer who gave both Raising Cain and Silent Son a single star.
