Great book for those looking little things that can be done

I really enjoyed this book and put the recommendations into action. I appreciated how the author spelled out the right portions of vitamins/supplements that should be taken during pregnancy and breastfeeding, it was very helpful to evaluate prenatal vitamins and choose what I felt was the best. This book also opened my eyes to environmental toxins and made me much more conscious about how harmful pesticides can be. Highly recommend this book.
Fantastic Book

I bought this book before I had my first child two years ago. I have since reread it several times and I return to it once every few months for suggestions on what I can continue to do to foster brain development with my child. I have since had a new baby and have found myself refering to it again and again. The book is layed out in a easy to read format and allows for you to quickly find activities that you can implement in all stages of your childs life. I have seen some other reviews that state that several activities are unrealistic for the age of the child. I found in my experience with my son they worked great. Sometimes I would try it and he wouldn't quite get it so I would return to it a few weeks later and he almost always picked it right up with in a matter of weeks. I love how this book teaches you about how the brain is formed and what things we can do with nutrition as parents to help foster a healthier brain. He covered topics like the dangers of BPA bottles back before the debate even hit the main stream. I feel reading this book gave me a clear picture of how truly amazing childrens brains are and some very real ways to help foster a better brain. I would recommend this to any parent!

Raise A Little Einstein!
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 17 years ago
I really enjoyed this book. There is plenty of excellent information on how to raise your own little Einstein. In a nutshell, Dr David Perlmutter (a renowned neurologist) believes that from the ages of 0 to 5 there exists a window of opportunity to optimize your child's brain. He claims 30+ additional IQ points can be earned during these critical, formative years. Dr Perlmutter provides solid advice on nutrition, environment, games, TV, computers, video games, and more. Some of my favorites: * Start using a computer at age 3 * Formal music training can begin at age 4 * Video games and TV are not evil! (As long as they are controlled by the parent!) * Focus on the creative and not repetitive, robotic memorization. * Stay away from things such as DEET and other environmental toxins * Go organic * Daily multivitamin and supplements It is slightly tacky that Perlmutter *occasionally* mentions his own brand of supplements. However, I am not sure that any competing formulations exist. Nonetheless, I will forgive him this slight negative. No biggie... I highly recommend "Raise a Smarter Child by Kindergarten". Every parent should read this NOW so that they can take complete advantage of this five year window of opportunity. Your child will thank you!
Excellent Reference for parents of kids Kindergarten and Under

I am still reading this book and have been intrigued with the level of research, resources and information included in the text. It's written in a way that will educate and motivate parents or caregivers to take an active part in their children's development. Even though it's written by a neurologist, it's not overwhelming to interpret. It's a MUST read for parents; an excellent resource for parents of kids ages 0-Kindergarten.
