ms donnelly takes you on a journey of christian history to reclaim the power and beauty of sexual encounter. for a tradition that tends to marginalize and denounce the body, donnelly's careful articulation of the power and meaning of physical love is an inspiration for us, particularly in these days of questions and challenges for open and affirming religious communities. she is inspirational in her description of "the gifted call" which can happen for a religious, inspiring them to marry, a married person, inspiring them to the religious life, a person of the same sex toward another, the call to feel a passionate love, or the call to leave a desperate marriage that is without love. lovely, luscious prose, while at the same time, a good historical basis. it is a wonderful read and a lovely gift for a friend or lover!
