I read this book during my early college years and it definitely shaped my life and gave me direction. Elizabeth Hawes was a multitalented and admirable person, and whether she was designing fashion, organizing labor unions in Detroit, hanging out with her artistic friends, authoring books, or dealing with having an FBI file out on her, she kept her head high and her personality untarnished by what others thought of her. If only a little bit of her could be in all women, we could get so much accomplished. Even though it is out of print, I recommend trying to find a used copy.
