I would highly, highly recommend this book for anyone wishing to better understand how racism has affected those of living in the US. I wish this site gave more of a description of the book; its very extensive and deals with many aspects of America's problem including its origins and modern depths, its affect on the education system, its affect on immigrants, disfracturing of the black community, black-Jewish tension, black rage, the spiritual dimension of the solution to racism, and the Institute for the Healing of Racism. I had already read "Healing Racism in America" by Rutstein and "Racial Healing" by Rutstein and Reggie Newkirk when i read this so not all of the ideas were new, but as Rutstein says in the introduction this book goes much deeper to the core of the problem than do his other works, and deeper than he went in the 10 previous that he had spent travelling country giving talks on race relations. The more and more I read of the book, the more I became in touch with emotions that I had always felt regarding race, but until now wasn't ever really able to understand or, in some cases because they were so painful, comfortably acknowledge. Anyone who has ever in any way come into contact with the disease of racial prejudice afflicting our nation would greatly benefit from reading this book.
