Rachel Pennington, 20, is a bit of a forward miss. She seems to be always leading her friend Beatrice Gaston into innocent adventures. She very quickly gets on the outs with her father, William Pennington, a lawyer in Fairfield. He wants his daughter to consider the pursuit of Robert Gaston who has asked to court Rachel. Rachel has no interest in Rob and she tries very ladylike, to discourge him. Rob is equally determined to have Rachel for his wife. [the nitwit] On one of her rides, she takes a horse that her father has forbidden her to ride and gets thrown. Yup! along comes Jared Prescott from Ravenwood and in essence rescues her. At least he gives her a ride home. On the back of his horse, with her arms around him. This angers her father. Ah, no matter how much Jared wants to be left alone, Rachel starts a gentle pursuit of him. In the mean time Jared's cousin, Mark Paynter drops by and with the schemeing of Rachel and Beatrice the two young men, both about thirty years old, are invited to a gathering at the Gaston home. Rob continues his pursuit - Rachel keeps dodgeing him - and waylaying Jared - and a couple of murders occur. Now we have been introduced to Yvonne, Jared's step-sister and her care taker, Abby and suspecions are being raised. It is a hoot the way Rachel's marriage is brought about with everything tied up nicely - Oh, yes, I had forgotten about Rachel's very pregnant sister, Rose and her husband, Edwin - very nice characters. A very nice well rounded story that you will enjoy. Definitely Recommended -- m
