TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS OF A THIRTEEN-YEAR-OLD BOYThere was a time; it wasn't good, when I was so misunderstood, I told a little simple lie, and thought that it would get me by.I was a kid, just, in my teens, and didn't know what danger means, I said I'd drive just any car, and drive it steady near or far.A license I just never had, nor experience good or bad, but anyhow they wanted me, to drive this car immediately.So off I took to deliver, this same car across the river, and while I drove it down the road, it seemed to be a mighty load.Of gravel passed another truck, I'd really thought I had the luck, to drive that car and get me there, but now I'm hurt and in despair.I have no way of gettin' past, a truck that's drivin' not too fast, in fact, he's driving way to slow, not giving me a chance to go.past and I should really giv-er, did, and ended in the river, the car went shootin' o'er the bank, into the water where it sank.28 THINGS PASTThere was a time when I was young, I'd do so many things for fun, while some of them I now regret, I wish I'd change them even yet.But that's something that can't be done, no matter how our lives are run, the things I've done in my own past, within my mind will always last.I know that we all realize, that all the things we've done weren't wise, but now I know eventually, we'll get that wisdom finally.There are some things in the Wild West, and some I like the very best, there's nothing really that is here, that I should positively fear.I don't mind making some mistakes, process of learning's what it takes, only making a mistake once, 'cause any more and I'm a dunceI'd like to do some things again, and change those things to just regain, a higher level of reserve, it's something I don't now deserve.Anything more than what I've got, and sometimes I remember not, of all the times I simply failed, to
