For those who are or want to be

I came across the term Quirkyalone while reading the weekly "What's Going On" paper. It was about the upcoming International Quirkyalone Day and the QA idea. I knew then that the ideas being described were describing me, and from that day forward, I stopped wondering what I was doing wrong in trying to find and keep relationships with the opposite sex. I'm much happier since I let that go. This book doesn't have the answers, but it's got some great questions to ponder and matters for debate. All I needed once I knew the term was that I wasn't alone.

A real gem

One of the things I love about the book is the wit with which this concept is put forth. It's funny and smart, which is so not the case for most books in the "relationships" section of bookstores. I also feel a little spooked by Quirkyalone. I wonder if Sasha has secretly been living in one of my bedroom for years reading through my diaries. The book so articulates my life being single and the long-term relationships I have been involved in, that is almost scary! Highly recommended for everyone who does not believe in a "timeline" for getting married or that you need to bring a date to a wedding or any of the other stifling messages we get--a needed affirmation for people who want to live life on their own terms. THANK YOU SASHA!

Great bath reading!

After I bought the book, I took a bath and spent all day reading it. Writing about women and dating is usually so generic and boring-we must follow the rules or treat relationships like business deals. Uggh! This book creates a new term and a new liberating way to look at ourselves. Although I am in a relationship, I can identify with many of the ideas of quirkyalone-cultivating a relationship with myself comes first for me and I love the way she talks about how important friendship is in life. I used to read the author's To-Do List zine and this magazine shows her zinester spirit. Maybe some people want heavy sociological reading on relationships, but to me the do-it-yourself spirit rocks. It has lots of real people's stories, cool lists and just plain funny, strange elements-I hate how polished some books are so that you can't see any of the real stuff. This book has the lightness of a good women's magazine (without being a sell-out on how to be great in bed or land a guy) and the grittiness of a zine. I really liked hearing about Sasha's life and I identified with the other quirkyalones. This book made me happy.

this book is funny, honest and insightful

i went to a reading by the author in san francisco last night, she was hysterical! what i like about the book is that it isn't just "rah-rah, being single is fantastic" , but looks at some of the more complex, darker (and very funny) aspects of single life too. i also like that it's very antidotal, and has a lot of different people's stories. definitely a fun read!

Best Book Ever!

This book changed my life. It's one of the most unique books I've ever read--chock full of images, lists, quirkyalone mottos, advice, mad libs, and more! It's fun, insightful, quirky, and perfect. Cagen does a great job letting us know that we should embrace ourselves whether we are single or coupled. It's the perfect antidote to patronizing books such as "The Rules" and "The Surrendered Single." I'm going to buy a copy for all of my friends and family members (especially the ones that are constantly bugging me about finding "the one")!
