Just for fun is this wonderful little book for anyone harassed by those inevitable signs of aging, e.g., short-term memory loss and income strategies for retirement. In this everything-you-wish-you-didn't-need-to-know guidebook, Padwa ( Say the Magic Words: How To Get What You Want from the People Who Have What You Need ) discusses midlifers' sense of smell, income possibilities, and retirement havens. She also tackles such issues as ridding oneself of debt and the safety of dying pubic hair. Sure to attract attention and readership; recommended for all public libraries.
With my 50th birthday looming large later this year I've been stockpiling books about dealing with aging parents and my own aging. None of these have been pleasure reads...until Ms. Padwa's book came along! Thanks to Lynette Padwa I'm a bit less fearful, and a lot more prepared to face mid-life armed with humor and essential information. And now I know what I'll be getting all my friends for their 50th birthday! Midlife need not be a crisis anymore and it's gals like Ms. Padwa who'll spread that message for all to hear! Thank-you!
Lives up to the title

As an avid reader its rare that a book that lands on my desk actually lives up to the title. This one does. The author literally covers hundreds of topics in a factual as well as a witty way, which makes the book a joy to read and one of those rare books one doesn't want to put down. The authors writes about prostates, penis', what men/women really look for in a partner, finances, scents that men/women like most, face lifts, what's better coffee or wine, fitness, baldness (most women don't care), viagra, mind and stress, why do bones creak, medical tests over age 50, digestion, wills, life insurance, medicare, elderly parents and money concerns, job changes, retirement communities, cohousing, sex and dating and much much more.

An informative/entertaining read

If you are 50 or older, or getting dangerously close, I highly recommend Lynette Padwa's book "Quick, Answer Me Before I Forget the Question." Padwa writes in an engaging, entertaining style, but the book is full of well researched information. I headed right for the chapter on Love and Sex and found some useful as well as surprising information. For example, when asked what people find most desirable in a dating partner, both men and woman put Personality and Sense of humor as the number one trait, where sexual compatibility was in the middle of the pack for both sexes. Men, you can relax because baldness is not a big issue with the ladies. There are also chapters that deal with memory issues, health, hair loss and legalities. The chapters are more or less independent so you can skip around in the book and concentrate on the things that interest you the most. I have found that many self help books are either hard to and/or focus only on one issue at a time. Padwa's book is an enjoyable read, and contains information on a multitude of topics. This is an excellent book and I would order several copies, for yourself and a couple of friends.
Turning 50? Check out this little book!

Author Lynette Padwa has written an informative and FUN book for those turning 50 as well as those of us looking at 50 through a rear view mirror. The book is well organized in short "essays," easy to read w/ many a chuckle. For instance the TITLES of the essays: "What happens at the Hair Club for Men?" or "When's the best time to get a face lift?" (If you want to know ... buy the book!! She does give serious information and answers to these questions!) The book also has a VERY serious side -- it covers subjects such as Wills and Medicare. Bottom line: a short book long on information!
