A Critical Look at the "Number Sense"

If you are looking for a book to tell you that infants can count, do addition, multiplication, and subtraction, look elsewhere. If you are interested in well-controlled experimental evidence of what babies actually know of math and quantity, read on. These 3 authors look to common sense and well-designed experiments to support a less sensational (but more logical) view of quantitative development. Of course, if you want to believe that your baby can actually do complex mathematical computation from birth, you might as well read the tabloids, because you're probably one who will believe anything...
