I read this book and thought that it was very informative. I have been a fan of Prince for a long time and have read a lot of magazine articles on him over the years. But, reading this book, I learned a lot of new and interesting facts about Prince that I had never heard or read before.
His genius is finally acknowledged

A sensitive biography that sheds light on his Purple Highness particuarly the mysteries surrounding his childhood. The author is "clippy" in some places and drops tantalizing bits of info, but overall the biography is very well-informed

Even is U are not a fan of da man, this excellent biography will still be a fascinating and engrossing read. Not a gossipy, tabloid-like expose that focuses on Prince's eccentricities, but an intelligent study of not only his music, but the changing texture of black music in general. There is also an excellent discography and reviews of all of his albums in an nice appendix. This is one of the most accomplished biographies I've read in recent years, and it's highly recommended. Peace and Be Wild!!
