One of my Favorite Books

I've read a number of Jack Cavanaugh's books, but this one is special. Cavanaugh writes about Drew Morgan, a young man hired by Bishop Laud in 1629 England to spy on the Puritans. But Drew is unexpectedly touched by the spiritual curate Christopher Mathews, and he is drawn to his daughters as well. He admires Nell for her spirituality and her intelligence, and Jenny for her vivaciousness and her love of life. But loyalties to Bishop Laud have to come first. This creates problems and tensions. The last portion of the book takes place in the American Colonies. be prepared for a breathtaking, powerful conclusion. This is Cavanaugh's first book and so far, by a narrow margin, I would have to say that it is his best.

Great Christian fiction

What a great book. Not only did it have action and romance, but it was inspiring. But the best part was the fictional character of Drew Morgan, who started out with no knowledge of Christ, to a strong, dedicated Christian. It is nice to have fiction that has a meaning and is hard to put down. This book has both!

Makes you feel for the characters!

Although I found The Puritans to be a little bit hard to get into, it certainly made up for itself later! Jack Cavanaugh does a wonderful job of making his characters come to life! I found myself crying and laughing. I was shocked throughout the whole thing; I didn't figure out the plot early like some books. It takes so many twists and turns! Wonderful. I would definitely recommend this series!

Suspenseful, romantic, something for everyone

Jack Cavanaugh really struck a cord with me in this book. His intertwining of history, romance and suspense is masterful. The historical explanations in the afterword are great even if history isn't one of your loves. This is a large novel but you don't notice it as the story is written so well that you just sit transfixed as time flies by. I fell in love with the characters and willed them to make the right decisions. Jack Cavanaugh has written a great first book to his American Family Portraits Series, this book leaves you desperate to read the next.

This book was the best one I've EVER read!

My best friend introduced me to The Puritans, by Jack Cavanaugh. Once I started I couldn't put the book down, literally. I read the entire book in 10 hours. I even cried, and if you can make me cry then the book is pretty darn good. I simply loved how Mr. Cavanaugh intertwined history with a fictional story. (Most books like that are boring.) The book had a great plot and was full of much needed emotions that stir the reader to take a deep look into themselves. Words can't do this book justice so I'll end in saying that I loved the Puritans, very, very much!
