This is a GREAT Puppy Book!

I love this book. I used it when I got my four-month-old shepherd-mix, and the "nhaa" thing really does work! I found this book talked more about imitating the puppy's mother's behavior than some other books I've read. I also loved this author's informal style.I know some people disagree with the "10 Problem Breeds," but the author isn't saying that you should never get any of those breeds. He's just warning potential puppy owners so they don't bring an extremely energetic Aussie or Dalmation into an apartment, or get an Old English Sheepdog when they have very little time to spend with the dog. This book is very detailed (but not ridiculously detailed) and I recommend it to anyone.

Only Puppy book You'll ever need

I bought this book by accident in 1996. I only picked it because I was getting a puppy and it had the most recent publication date. This book is well written - funny and informative. I bought a lot of puppy books and this was the best one. I am getting ready to purchase it again - my neighbors just got their first puppy.

Best Puppy Book Ever!

Easy to read, sensible, accurate, and gentle methods fully explained. Don't get a puppy until you read this book. Details on effective housebreaking, expectations you should have for your "baby", what NOT to do with the pup, and how to be the benevolent leader of your dog. This is by far the best out of ten or so books I have read on puppy/dog training.

Excellent common-sense advice

We read this book before getting our first dog and it made a HUGE difference for our family in understanding what to expect with a new puppy. Now, eighteen months later, we have a well-behaved dog who has been a pleasure to have in our home. All of this without the usual trauma that most people talk about when detailing their attempts to change an incontient puppy into a well-behaved young adult dog. The techniques listed in the book worked well for us. I strongly recommend this book to any first time dog owner. We plan to give it as "new puppy welcoming gift" to new dog owners...

All pups should come with this instruction manual!

We have always had reasonably well behaved dogs throughout the years, but only after fairly stressful puppy months! Puppy Preschool presents a logical, simplistic approach to "connecting" with your dog. It's the closest thing to a "Dog/Human, Human/Dog" dictionary that you'll find. When we uttered our first "Nhaaa!!!", our pup stopped dead in her tracks, whipped her head around, as if to say, "Did my mother tell you to say that?" LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!!
