Paris Book

The book came in on time. It was bigger than I anticipated. I was hoping to be able to fit it into my suitcase, but it is too big for that. But I hope to go over before I leave and work out the places I want to go.

Great restaurant guide to Paris

I used this book extensively on a June, 2009 trip to Paris and found it to be very reliable. We stayed in the Marais area (4th arr) and ate at most of the recommended restaurants there and they were all good to outstanding. Interestingly, the only restaurant in the area that we did not think lived up to Pudlo's review was supposed to be the best one: L'Ambroisie. The food was outstanding, but the wine service was terrible. All red wines were served in small glasses without decanting (not just to us American tourists but to everyone I could see in the restaurant). When I asked for a glass of white wine to go with a shellfish first course, I was brought a heavy Mersault that did not work at all. So, while not perfect, most of the reviews are spot on. Use Rick Steves Paris 2009 to figure out where to go and what to do and use Pudlo to chose your restaurants. Steves' restaurant recommendations were often quite poor.

Completely complete

It's all there. If you are planning a trip to France this is the only lodging/food guide you will need.

Pudlo rocks

I have travelled to France many times, and the tourist guides seem very superficial to me. I like to understand the local culture of the places I am visiting, and get in on the best of the local scene. Pudlo goes way beyond the Green Guide, the DK, Fodors, whomever, and helps you find the best. Many, many towns. Great restaurants and hotels.

Pudlo France

This is an invaluable reference for us Francophiles. I've already profited from it for my upcoming trip by finding both a "secret" place to stay in one city not found anywhere else and a special restaurant in another city--both of which were subsequently endorsed highly by people who live there that I have not yet met.
