Absolutely superb introduction to the subject by a philosopher at Syracuse University, and better than anything I ever encountered by a psychologist writer on the subject. Sahakian was a gifted presenter of what might otherwise be dull, dry subjects, and I owe a lot of my early education to him. Learning theory isn't the most intersting area of psychology for most people, but it's extremely important, and psychology majors used to have to take at least one course in the subject. Also, it's a subject that is heavily tested on the GRE, and knowing something about the subject really added to my GRE score. Sahakian presents the essential topics, theorists, and history in a clear, concise, and interesting fashion that is better than any textbook I found. It's also very complete, and covers all the important ideas as well as more detailed subject matter. Psychologists often find themselves reading philosophy to learn more about what it can contribute in the way of a perspective. It's refreshing to find a philosopher who studied psychology for probably the same reasons. All in all this is one of the great books ever written on a usually very dry subject.
