The Elephant in the Room

If only the EAP service I contacted had the knowledge shared by Patricia Spindel, they might have been able to help. If only my Psychotherapist had read this book. If only the HR Director I contacted for help had been aware of the seriousness of the issue I brought forth. From someone who has been on the receiving end of psychological harassment, but who had no name for it, this book brought about much needed vindication and a sense of closure. After reading this book, I now know I'm not alone. The elephant in the room will no longer be ignored. This book should be on the shelf of every corporate manager, every HR Manager, every insurance company who deals with corporate disabilities, every psychotherapist, every coach who deals with professionals, every lawyer who deals with labour laws, and many more.

Help for Targets of Psychological Abuse at Work

Patricia Spindel, Ed.D. defines psychological warfare, explains who perpetuates this type of harassment, who the targets are, possible reasons for, and offers practical advice for counteracting the problems related to this type of workplace abuse. This book should be mandatory reading for every employee, manager or director of any organization who wants to understand and solve this very real, but little talked about problem. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who thinks workplace conflicts are just personality problems. Bullies hurt an employer's bottom line through lost productivity, absenteeism, lack of teamwork, etc. and some of them need to be made aware of the pain they inflict and taught a better way to handle employees and/or conduct business...and some are not worth keeping around due to the intentionally malicious harm they cause and their utter lack of concern for the well-being of others. If management honestly cares enough to protect their employees from abuse, wants to maintain a good/healthy morale (aka higher productivity), and hopes to retain their best employees, they will take what is in this book to heart and implement the suggested policies, procedures, and remedies to eliminate psychological abuse in the workplace. Nobody goes to work to be abused!
