All Students Should Take Some Time to Read This Book

Well, perhaps I should say that all students, particularly those students of color, should read this book -- as I just gave it as a gift to my cousin who is having a difficult time adjusting to a freshman year at a predominately white college. As some of the other reviews have indicated, the book touches on many themes that have nothing to do with what students should be concentrating on while in college--ACADEMICS! I applaud the author for a story that accurately represents what it can be like when issues of race play too primary of a role when one struggles to pursue an education. I was especially pleased with the portrait of Jason who is so lost after the death of his friend who also happened to be the leader of the Black Student Union. The story is simple, the characters are real and within the novel's simplicity is the harsh reality which I suspect (heck, I know!) plenty of students of color are still facing today -- even in this so-called new millennium.

**THIS STORY DESERVES A FOLLOW-UP!!**

Okay... You've got five seniors at a prestigious California university discovering what's important is not always who you are but sometimes who you appear to be. They are scraping through their last few months by the skin of their teeth. Each has a secret: one sells herself to pay her expensive tuition; one drinks heavily and sleeps with white girls in an attempt to forget his color; one is living in the closet; another is a poor girl adopted into a high society family; and two believe they were responsible for a friend's death. They all look forward to graduation, thinking that soon all their problems will be solved...but somehow I think they are only beginning. Hopefully, the author will one day tell us what happens the day after graduation.

A Worthy Read for All Students!

The Story is Wild. Yes, sometimes unbelievable in parts. But it hits upon so many issues that students of color face at predominately white institutions. There is no other book like this one and Mr. Green was certainly brave in his attempt to bring the spotlight on the modern lives of minority students. Pseudo Cool is an entertaining read that makes you think about the variety of challenges we all face.

THIS STORY MADE ME CRY!

I started reading this book late at night 'cause it's not too long and I was hooked from the very first sentence. Before I knew it, I was almost finished and I was crying. This is a story that speaks to what it is like to be a minority, to be young, and to be very confused about your place in this world. I cried for some of the characters and what they had to go through--but mostly, I cried because so many young, minority students have such a hard road to go when striving toward success...and it's never been an easy one. I will definitely recommend this one to others.

Completely True to Life and Steamy!

This novel is something of a real trip... 'cause on one level it seems real light... but if you really start to think about some of the things that go on, you're gonna want to know more. Maybe this is why so many people have a problem with integrated schools. Can minority students focus on their education in an environment that is so heavily influenced by race? I don't know. I thank writers such as Green and others who attempt to tackle the issue.
