THIS BOOK WAS A REAL TREASURE, BURSTING AT THE SEAMS WITH RAW EMOTION AND HONESTY. I WOULD RECOMMEND IT FOR ANYONE WHO SAVORS THE WRITTEN WORD.
A beautiful book!

I've had the chance to hear Shapiro read from this book on two occasions. Both times I was struck by his beautiful phrasing and his use of floating dialogue to really mesmerize his audience. Many of the poems are extremely funny. His comic timing (both written and delivered) is unique in poetry and I'm always delighted by this book. The book is divided into three sections for the three cities Shapiro has lived (Boston, Washington, DC & Chicago) and provides a cunning device for Shapiro to offer poems that bear the weight and tang of those urban geographies while relating personal stories of his life. It's a dynamite book. And if you have a chance to hear him read aloud, don't miss it!
