Outstanding Fantasy

Here's a great break from the run-of-the-mill type of fantasy. It's well written and full of interesting ideas and situations. If you liked Roger Zelazny's Amber series, you ought to like this one too. It throws in dashes of Shakespeare, Noir, and Dan Brown, but it comes out all it's own.

cleverly entertaining

L. Jagi Lamplighter's tale of a magician's immortal daughter turned multinational CEO sparkles with interesting characters and witty repartee. Peopled by characters from Shakespeare's play, The Tempest, along with Greek and Gnostic mythology, our heroine, 500-year-young Miranda, tracks her long-lost siblings after receiving a cryptic message from her father, Prospero. Prospero has apparently accidentally opened the gates to Hell. Miranda's narration of the story is funny, impassioned, and hard to put down.

A movie in the making...

Thanks to L. Jagi Lamplighter for writing the best novel I have read in ages! And you have to agree it would make an excellent movie! Just picture it, as I did: Kate Blanchett as Miranda, Anthony Hopkins as Prospero, Jeremy Irons as Theo, Russell Crowe (or, ok) Gary Oldman as Mab, Hugh Jackman (or) Gerard Butler as Astreus, Ralph Fiennes as Erasmus, Christian Bale as Gregor, and the incomparable Johnny Depp as Mephisto! Ahhh, sublime. I hope someone takes notice of this great opportunity for cinema bliss. I can't wait for Book II. Thank you L. Jagi Lamplighter! I am a poet of Donkey poems (the best of companions!) Hey L. Jagi Lamplighter, any chance of immortalizing these wonderful animals in the series?! Best reading to all, Jenny L. Bates

Super fantasy!

I love fantasy stories, and have loved them since I was a child! I frequently read and enjoy books in the genre. But only very, very rarely have I come across one that is as original, with a world as fully realized as that in the new book "Prospero Lost." This is a wonderful story of Shakespeare's Prospero and Miranda and the 500 years following The Tempest. The family has grown in size, and is seemingly immortal. In this first volume of a series, Miranda discovers that Prospero is missing and the family is under threat. She must find her brothers and sister and warn them. We follow her as she, one of her brothers, and an aerie spirit incarnated in the form of a 1940's Sam Spade detective search for her farflung family. As the surface story unfolded, I was entranced by Miranda's memories. After 500 years, human memory is stretched to its limit, and she and her family members forget much of their past, but sometimes memories come. That was just beautifully done. I was also impressed by the skill with which the author laid out the story and introduced the characters. I found myself caring for each one of them -- and some of them aren't very sympathetic on the surface. I can hardly wait for the next book in the series!

Loved it! (I couldn't put it down!)

At first I wasn't sure if I should get this book or not, however I decided to give the book a try. Twenty minutes into reading the book and I couldn't put this book down! I can't wait for the sequel!
